The College of the Arts at USF proposed a new educational facility for the School of Architecture and Community Design. The program is to join the colleges program as community and amplify the value of the students work as permanent home on campus.
The SACD Arts Building is designed by massing the curriculum of the school into the program of the building. The hierarchy of the SACD program is understood by sitting the rectangular geometry in which it is housed above the site. The shared COTA program is grounded to the landscape as orbs that protrude from the building as irregular masses. The irregular orbs conduct the artistic expressions that is produced by the students and faculty of the college. They express the structure on the interior and exterior of its construction. Studios stack the interior of the rigid geometry on the southern side. While studios have a need for collaboration, the circulation divides each space, offering a intuitive barrier. The administration program is separate yet close proximity to the Architecture education program.
